Block Stack

One-tap stacking game: drop blocks precisely to build the tallest tower.

About this tool

A block slides back and forth above the tower. Tap the game, click or press Space to drop it. Any part hanging over the edge is sliced off, so the next block is narrower. Drop within a few pixels of perfect and nothing is lost; three perfect drops in a row make the block a little wider again. The game ends when you miss the tower, and your best height is kept on this device.

Tips for stacking higher

Stacking games are about timing and rhythm rather than raw reaction speed. The block moves at a steady speed that increases slightly as the tower grows, and it alternates direction, so you can learn its rhythm. The most reliable technique is to watch the edges rather than the middle: wait for the leading edge of the moving block to line up with the edge of the tower below, then tap. Because overhangs are sliced off, small early errors compound as the tower narrows, so it pays to be careful while the blocks are wide and slow. A perfect drop, within about three pixels, keeps the full width, and a chain of three perfect drops grows the block, which can rescue a narrowing tower. Colours shift gradually as you climb, and the view scrolls up with the stack. Short bursts of play are a good timing exercise, and it works on phones, tablets and computers with no download. Honest limits: a steady frame rate helps, so close heavy tabs on older phones, and the game uses one-button input, so there's no keyboard-only aiming beyond Space or Enter. Your best height stays only in this browser. Snake, 2048 and Whack-a-Mole are other quick games.
