GIF Speed Changer
Speed up or slow down a GIF without losing quality.
About this tool
Drop in a GIF, choose a speed multiplier (0.25ร to 3ร) or a fixed delay per frame, choose how it loops, compare the preview with the original and download the new GIF.
Changing speed without losing quality
Most tools change a GIF's speed by decoding every frame and re-encoding the animation, which can shift colours, add dithering and change the file size. This tool takes a lossless route: a GIF stores each frame's delay as a two-byte number in hundredths of a second, so it rewrites only those numbers and leaves every pixel and colour exactly as it was. At 2ร each delay is halved and at 0.5ร it is doubled; a fixed delay sets every frame the same, which also evens out jerky timing. The loop setting can be kept, set to loop forever, set to a number of repeats, or removed so the GIF plays once. The fastest a GIF can reliably play is a 20 ms delay (50 frames per second), because browsers slow shorter delays to 100 ms, so the tool never goes below that. Honest limits: delays are whole hundredths of a second, so speeds are rounded; and messaging apps and social networks often convert GIFs to video, which may change timing. GIF info shows the original timing, and video to GIF makes GIFs from clips.
Frequently asked questions
Does changing the speed reduce quality?
No. Only the delay numbers change; every frame's pixels and colours stay identical.
How fast can a GIF play?
About 50 frames per second (20 ms delays). Browsers slow shorter delays to 100 ms, so the tool stops at 20 ms.
Can I make a GIF loop forever?
Yes. Choose loop forever, a set number of repeats, or play once.
Why did my GIF play differently after posting it?
Many apps convert GIFs to video and may change the timing.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read and processed in your browser on this device; nothing is uploaded or stored.
