Kaleidoscope Drawing
Draw with mirrored symmetry in 4โ16 segments and save the art as a PNG.
About this tool
Draw inside the circle with a mouse, pen or finger, and every stroke repeats around the centre. Choose 4 to 16 segments, turn mirroring on or off, set the brush size, and use rainbow colours or a single colour on any background. Undo steps back through recent strokes, Clear starts again, and the PNG button saves your art as a round 900-pixel image.
How kaleidoscope symmetry works
A real kaleidoscope uses angled mirrors to repeat a small scene around a centre point. This drawing tool does the same with maths. Each point you draw is rotated around the centre by equal steps, so 8 segments means rotations of 45ยฐ, and with mirroring on, each copy is also reflected. Eight mirrored segments therefore produce 16 strokes for every line you draw. That is why even random scribbles turn into balanced, mandala-like patterns. Short, slow strokes near the centre build dense flowers, long curves near the edge make petals, and dots make rings of beads. Fewer segments, such as 4 or 6, give bolder shapes, while 12 or 16 give lace-like detail. Rainbow mode shifts the hue continuously as you draw. People use symmetry drawing to relax, to make phone wallpapers, and to print outlines as colouring pages for children. The faint guide lines are drawn into the picture, so turn them off before you start a piece you want to save cleanly. The spirograph draws mathematical curves, the pixel art editor makes retro sprites and the whiteboard is for free drawing.
Frequently asked questions
How many segments should I use?
6 or 8 is a good start. Fewer segments give bold shapes; 12 or 16 give intricate, lace-like patterns.
What does Mirror do?
It reflects each copy as well as rotating it, like the mirrors in a real kaleidoscope, doubling the number of strokes.
Can I save my drawing?
Yes. The PNG button downloads a round 900 ร 900 pixel image to your device.
Is my drawing uploaded?
No. Everything stays in your browser and nothing is stored or sent.
