OKR Generator
Write Objectives and Key Results with quality checks and 0–1 scoring.
About this tool
Fill in the period, owner, objective and key results, one per line, ideally as "from X to Y". Add current values to score progress, plus the initiatives you'll work on. The preview builds a clean OKR document, the status line suggests improvements, and you can copy, print or download it. The draft is kept in your browser.
How to write good OKRs
OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) were developed at Intel by Andy Grove in the 1970s and popularised by John Doerr at Google. Many companies now use them for quarterly goals. The objective says where you want to go. It should be qualitative, ambitious and memorable, with no numbers: "Make onboarding so smooth that new customers succeed in their first week". The key results, usually two to five, say how you'll know you got there. Each should be measurable and phrased as an outcome rather than a task, ideally with a baseline and a target: "Raise week-1 setup completion from 42% to 70%". The initiatives are the projects you'll run to move those numbers, kept separate so the team stays focused on results rather than activity. Scoring is usually 0.0 to 1.0 per key result, the share of the distance from baseline to target. In the example, 55% on the way from 42% to 70% scores 0.5, two days on the way from three days to one scores 0.5, and 120 tickets on the way from 180 to 90 scores 0.7. For ambitious "stretch" OKRs, about 0.7 is generally treated as success, while "committed" OKRs are expected to reach 1.0. Keep the set small, make OKRs visible to the whole team, and check in every week or two. Honest limits: the tool's checks are simple rules (numbers in key results, none in the objective, two to five key results), not a judgement of whether you picked the right goals. The SMART goal generator, the Gantt chart and the SWOT analysis are related.
Frequently asked questions
What is an OKR?
An Objective (a qualitative goal) paired with 2–5 measurable Key Results that show whether you achieved it, usually set each quarter.
How are OKRs scored?
Each key result gets 0.0 to 1.0 based on progress from its starting value to its target. For stretch goals, around 0.7 is usually considered success.
What's the difference between a key result and an initiative?
A key result is a measurable outcome, such as raising completion from 42% to 70%. An initiative is the work you do to get there, such as redesigning a checklist.
Is my OKR draft saved?
Yes, in this browser only, so you can come back to it. It's never uploaded.
