Remove Blank Pages from PDF

Find and delete empty pages in scans and exports, with thumbnails to check first.

About this tool

Drop a PDF and every page is rendered as a thumbnail with the share of inked pixels shown underneath. Pages below the threshold are marked blank in red; adjust the threshold slider or click any page to keep or drop it, then download the cleaned PDF. Nothing is uploaded.

How blank-page detection works

Duplex scanners scan both sides of every sheet, so a stack of single-sided letters comes out with every second page empty; Word exports and slide decks add their own stray blanks. The tool renders each page small in your browser, converts it to brightness, and counts pixels noticeably darker than paper. A thin border is ignored because that is where scanner shadows and punch holes sit. A clean blank page scores 0%, a few specks of dust a few hundredths of a percent, and a page with a single short line of text around 0.1–0.2% β€” above the default threshold of 0.05%. That gap is why it is safe to automate β€” but the thumbnails are there because edge cases exist: a page that only says β€˜intentionally left blank’ has ink and is kept, while faint pencil notes can fall under the line. Check the red pages before saving. For manual reordering and deletion use the PDF organiser; the duplicate page finder removes pages scanned twice; the document scanner cleans up phone photos of paper; and How to compress a PDF β€” what's inside a large file and what shrinks it covers shrinking the result.

Frequently asked questions

Will it delete pages with very little text?

Not at the default threshold of 0.05% β€” a single short line of text scores about three times that. Every page marked blank is shown in red so you can check before saving.

My scanned blanks are not detected. What should I do?

Raise the threshold a little; heavy show-through from the reverse side or a grey scanner background adds ink. Or click the blank pages to mark them by hand.

Does it change the other pages?

No. The kept pages are copied unchanged, in order, into the new PDF β€” text, images and quality are untouched.

Is anything uploaded?

No. Pages are rendered and checked in your browser with open-source PDF libraries; the file stays on your device.
