Phone Number Formatter
Convert phone numbers to E.164 and readable formats, with call links.
About this tool
Choose the default country for numbers without a + code, then paste numbers one per line in any format: spaces, brackets, dashes, a leading 0, +44 (0)โฆ, 00 prefixes or extensions. Each is shown in E.164, international and national formats with call and WhatsApp links, and you can copy a whole column.
Why E.164 matters
E.164 is the ITU's international phone number standard: a plus sign, the country calling code, then the national number without its trunk prefix, with no spaces and at most 15 digits. +447911123456 is the UK mobile 07911 123456. Storing numbers this way makes them unambiguous, so CRMs, SMS and voice APIs (Twilio, WhatsApp Business, Vonage), login systems and tel: links all work, and duplicate contacts are easier to spot. The formatter strips punctuation, removes the national trunk prefix (the UK's 0, Russia's 8), handles 00 international prefixes and the common but incorrect +44 (0) style, keeps extensions, and detects about 40 countries' calling codes. UK numbers are grouped by area code type (020 7946 0018, 0161 496 0000, 07911 123456), and North American ones as (415) 555-2671. Honest limits: it formats and sanity-checks numbers, but it can't tell whether a number exists, is a mobile, or has been ported. Groupings are simplified for some countries, and Google's libphonenumber has the complete rules. +1 numbers are shown as US unless you choose Canada. The UK postcode checker and the text extractor (which pulls phone numbers from text) are related.
