Sign & Poster Maker

Big printable signs: Closed, Wet floor, Back soon and more.

About this tool

Pick a quick sign or type your own text (each line on the sign on its own line), add an optional smaller line, choose landscape or portrait and a colour scheme, then print.

What makes a sign readable

Signs are read at a glance, often from a distance, so three things matter most. First, size: the text is scaled automatically so the longest line fills the width of the page, and every line fits the height. Second, few words: 'CLOSED' beats 'We are currently closed', and the smaller line can carry details like opening times. Third, contrast: black on white, white on red, black on yellow (the classic warning colours) and white on blue or green all read clearly, with bold heavy letters. A rough guide is that capital letters about 25 mm (1 inch) tall can be read from about 7โ€“10 m away, and a full-page word on A4 is readable across a large room. Choose landscape for short words and portrait for stacked lines, and add an optional border. For bigger signs, use your printer's poster or tiling option, or the letter-per-page banner maker. Honest limits: coloured backgrounds use lots of ink, so black on white is cheapest. Official safety signs have regulated symbols, colours and wording in many countries, so use approved signage where it's required. The banner maker and the tear-off flyer maker are related.
