Smoking Cost Calculator

What smoking or vaping costs a year and a decade, and savings since quitting.

About this tool

Choose cigarettes, vape pods or another product, then enter how many you use a day, how many come in a pack and what a pack costs. The calculator shows the cost per week, month, year, ten years and thirty years, and what the same money would grow to if you invested it each month instead. Add your quit date to see the money saved and the cigarettes or pods not used since.

What the habit really costs

The daily cost is the units used per day รท units per pack ร— pack price. Fifteen cigarettes a day from packs of 20 costing 14 is 10.50 a day, 73.50 a week, about 320 a month and 3,835 a year. Over ten years that is about 38,351. Many people find the investment figure more striking. Putting the same 320 aside every month at a 5% return would grow to about 49,627 after ten years and about 265,985 after thirty. If you have already quit, the running total since your quit date can be a useful source of motivation. Honest limits: you enter prices, which vary widely by country, and the investment figure is an illustration, not a forecast. The health benefits of stopping are worth far more than the money. Your doctor, pharmacist or national quit line can offer free support. Not medical or financial advice. The habit tracker records smoke-free days, the savings goal calculator gives the money a purpose and the compound interest calculator explores the growth. How long does it take to build a habit? explains why the first weeks are hardest.
