About this tool
Paste the week's spelling words, choose a sheet type, give it a title, and optionally shuffle the order. Print the pupil sheet and the teacher's list; the sheet number reprints the same version.
Practising spellings
Spelling sticks best with short, regular practice and a mix of activities. A test sheet gives numbered answer lines while you read the words aloud; shuffle the order so pupils can't rely on remembering the list. The classic look, say, cover, write, check grid is ideal for home practice: look at the word, say it, cover it, write it from memory and check, twice over. Unscramble sheets mix up each word's letters, and missing vowels sheets blank out a, e, i, o and u, both of which make pupils think about letter order and sounds. Every sheet has space for a name and score, and the teacher's list prints the words in the same order for reading aloud or marking. The sheet number keeps the same shuffle and scrambles, so a whole class gets matching sheets. Common tricky words like because, friend, believe, necessary, separate, rhythm and Wednesday make a good starter list. Honest limits: scrambles are random, so occasionally one spells another real word. Words with no vowels (like rhythm) lose their first letter instead. The sheet prints exactly what you type, including capitals. The word search maker and the handwriting worksheet generator are related.
