Wedding Budget Calculator
Split a wedding budget by category, cost per guest and track spending.
About this tool
Enter the total budget and number of guests. The calculator splits the budget across eleven typical categories, from venue and catering to a contingency fund, using common percentages that you can edit. Add or remove categories, log what you have spent in each, and see what is left, the cost per guest and whether your percentages add up to 100%. The budget is saved in your browser.
How to split a wedding budget
The venue and catering are usually the biggest cost, often 40โ50% of the total, because they scale with the guest list. Photography and video typically take around 10โ12%, then attire and beauty, flowers and decor, and music and entertainment take a few percent each, with smaller amounts for rings, stationery, the cake, transport and the officiant. Keep 5โ10% as a contingency, because almost every wedding has extra costs, such as service charges, alterations or a last-minute supplier. On a 25,000 budget with 90 guests, the split gives about 11,250 for venue and catering and works out at about 278 per guest. Cutting the guest list is usually the fastest way to bring the total down, since catering, drinks, stationery and favours all depend on it. Track deposits and payments as you book so you can see early if one category is running over and move money from another. Honest limits: typical shares vary by country, season and style of wedding, so treat them as a starting point. The budget planner, the party food calculator and the checklist maker help with planning. How to split group expenses fairly, and settle up in the fewest payments helps if costs are shared.
