MP3 Tag Editor (ID3)

Edit an MP3's title, artist, album, year, genre and cover art.

About this tool

Open an MP3 to see its current tags and cover art. Change any field, choose a new cover image (JPG or PNG) or remove the old one, then save a tagged copy. The audio itself is copied byte for byte, so quality doesn't change.

How MP3 tags work

The song details your phone, car stereo or music app shows aren't part of the audio. They live in an ID3 tag, a block of metadata at the start of the MP3 file. ID3v2 stores each field as a "frame": TIT2 for the title, TPE1 for the artist, TALB for the album, TPE2 for the album artist, TYER or TDRC for the year, TRCK for the track number, TCON for the genre, COMM for comments and APIC for the cover picture. This editor reads ID3v2.3 and v2.4 tags, including Unicode text, and writes a fresh ID3v2.3 tag, the version supported most widely by players and cars. It then places it in front of the original, untouched audio frames. Nothing is re-encoded, so there's no loss of quality and the file stays the same length. Common fixes include replacing "Unknown Artist" and "Track 01", adding album art (a square JPG of about 600โ€“1000 pixels shows well everywhere), setting the album artist so compilations group correctly, and tagging podcasts, audiobooks and voice recordings. The older ID3v1 tag at the end of the file can be removed so legacy players don't show stale information. Honest limits: this edits MP3 files only, since M4A/AAC, FLAC and OGG use different tag systems. Less common frames such as lyrics, ratings and play counts aren't carried over. Edit one file at a time. Audio to MP3, the audio trimmer and the ringtone maker are related.

Frequently asked questions

How do I edit MP3 tags?

Open the MP3 here, change the title, artist, album and other fields, add cover art if you like, and save the tagged copy.

Does editing tags reduce audio quality?

No. Only the tag is rewritten, and the audio data is copied unchanged.

How do I add album art to an MP3?

Choose a JPG or PNG under Cover art, ideally square and 600โ€“1000 px, then save. It's stored in the APIC frame.

Is my file uploaded?

No. Tags are read and written in your browser, and the file stays on your device.
