Mind Map Maker

Turn an outline into a balanced, colourful mind map; export SVG or PNG.

About this tool

Write your central idea on the first line, then list branches beneath it, indenting sub-ideas with two spaces or a tab. Bullet points at the start of lines are ignored, so you can paste existing notes. The map updates as you type, splitting main branches between the left and right sides, colouring each one, and curving the connections. Download it as SVG or PNG.

How to use mind maps

A mind map puts one topic in the centre and radiates related ideas outward as branches and sub-branches. Because it mirrors how associations spread, it's a quick way to brainstorm, plan a project or essay, summarise a chapter for revision, prepare a talk or take meeting notes. Good mind maps use short keywords rather than sentences, give each main branch its own colour so themes stand out, and keep to a handful of main branches with detail added at the edges. Writing the map as an outline first is often faster than drawing: you can type freely, reorder lines and indent or outdent them, and the layout follows. This tool balances the main branches by how many ideas they contain, so the map stays roughly symmetrical, and spaces every leaf so nothing overlaps. If your outline has several top-level lines, they are gathered under a central "Ideas" node. Honest limits: long labels are shortened with an ellipsis on the map, though the outline keeps the full text, and very large maps become hard to read on one page, so split them into a map per main branch. There are no images or freely positioned nodes. The flowchart maker shows processes, the org chart maker draws hierarchies and the Venn diagram maker compares sets. Spaced repetition, explained properly covers making revision stick.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add sub-branches?

Indent the line two spaces (or a tab) further than the branch it belongs to.

Can I paste bullet-point notes?

Yes. Leading -, * and โ€ข bullets are ignored, and indentation sets the levels.

Why are some labels shortened?

Long labels are trimmed with โ€ฆ to keep the map readable; the full text stays in your outline.

Is my data saved?

No. The map is drawn in your browser and nothing is stored or sent.
