Report Card Comment Generator
Draft personalised report card comments from strengths and next steps.
About this tool
Enter the student's first name, choose their pronouns, the subject and an overall level, and tick their strengths and next steps. Three differently worded comments appear, ready to edit and copy into your reporting system.
Writing useful report comments
Good report comments follow a simple shape: an overall judgement of progress, specific strengths, and clear, positive next steps that families can support at home. This generator follows that structure and writes three variations, so comments for a class don't all read the same. Choose from strengths such as contributing to discussions, effort and perseverance, homework, teamwork, creativity, reading, problem solving, behaviour, organisation and asking good questions, and from next steps such as maintaining focus, checking work, adding detail, practising key facts, sharing ideas more confidently or meeting deadlines. Grammar is handled for they/them, she/her and he/him ('they contribute', 'she contributes'), and you choose the pronouns rather than having them guessed from a name. Each version shows a word count to help with length limits. Edit freely: the strongest comments add one specific example only you can give, such as a piece of work, a moment in class or a target met. Honest limits: these are drafts to save time, not finished reports. Check them against your school's guidance, tone and policies. Student names never leave your device. The rubric maker and the lesson plan generator are related.
