How to use the random animal wheel
A random animal wheel for teachers and parents: spin for a drawing subject, a writing prompt, a charades round, or the animal a class is going to research for the next twenty minutes.
Spin
Click the wheel or press Space. Fourteen well-known animals, chosen because a child can picture every one of them without a photo.
Read the result
The winning slice is chosen with the browser’s cryptographic random number generator before the animation starts, so the spin plays out a decision that has already been made fairly.
Edit, share, or project it
The list stays editable — add, remove, or reorder lines and the wheel redraws. Copy the share link to send your version to someone else, or go fullscreen so the wheel is readable across a room.
About this tool
The reason to spin rather than let pupils pick is coverage. Left to choose, a class produces fifteen dogs and a shark; the wheel produces a spread, and the display board is far more interesting for it.
Pair it with the countdown timer for a fast round: spin, sixty seconds to draw, hold it up, spin again.
Frequently asked questions
- What is this useful for?
- Drawing warm-ups, story starters, movement games (“move like the animal”), spelling practice, and research tasks where you do not want thirty children choosing the same shark.
- Can I restrict it to one habitat?
- Yes — replace the list with just ocean animals, just rainforest animals, or whatever the current topic is, then share the link with your class.
- Can everyone get a different animal?
- Tick “remove the winner after each spin” and go round the room. Each pupil gets an animal nobody else has.
