How to use the strikethrough text generator
Strikethrough crosses out your words — s̶o̶ ̶l̶i̶k̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶i̶s̶ — without any formatting toolbar. Useful for edited-in-public corrections, crossed-off lists, and jokes that depend on showing the thing you supposedly did not say.
Type your text
Enter the words you want styled. Letters and digits are converted where the style has a matching character; punctuation and spaces pass through unchanged.
Copy the result
Use the copy button on the highlighted style. A combining long stroke overlay (U+0336) is inserted after every character, so the line is part of the text itself.
Paste it anywhere
The result is text, not an image, so it pastes into Instagram, TikTok, X, Discord, WhatsApp, and any form that accepts plain text. If a device is missing the characters you will see empty boxes — try a different style.
About this tool
Combining marks are a general Unicode mechanism: a character that draws itself over the previous one. Accents work the same way, which is why this technique composes with almost any script rather than only with the Latin alphabet.
Since the line is baked into the text, it survives copy and paste into places that would strip real formatting — and it also survives into search indexes and screen readers, where it is noise. Keep it out of anything functional.
Frequently asked questions
- Why does my character count double?
- Each visible character is followed by an invisible combining mark, so a 20-character message counts as 40. That matters wherever there is a hard limit, like an X post or an SMS.
- Can I remove the strikethrough later?
- Not from this page. Keep the plain version — the combining marks are interleaved through the string and stripping them by hand is tedious.
- Does it work in Discord and Slack?
- It does, but both already support strikethrough natively with tildes. Use the native version there; use this one where no formatting exists at all.
