How to use the underline text generator
Underline your text anywhere — u̲n̲d̲e̲r̲l̲i̲n̲e̲d̲ — including bios, chat apps, and forms that strip every trace of formatting. The line is made of combining characters, so it pastes as text rather than as styling.
Type your text
Enter the words you want styled. Letters and digits are converted where the style has a matching character; punctuation and spaces pass through unchanged.
Copy the result
Use the copy button on the highlighted style. A combining low line (U+0332) is inserted after every character, so the underline travels with the text.
Paste it anywhere
The result is text, not an image, so it pastes into Instagram, TikTok, X, Discord, WhatsApp, and any form that accepts plain text. If a device is missing the characters you will see empty boxes — try a different style.
About this tool
Underlining is a holdover from typewriters, which had no italics. Wherever real emphasis is available, italics or bold communicate the same thing with less visual disruption.
This style earns its place only in environments with no formatting whatsoever. If the app has a toolbar, use the toolbar.
Frequently asked questions
- Why does the line have small gaps?
- Each underline is drawn per character, so at certain font sizes the segments do not quite meet. It is a rendering artefact of the technique and cannot be fixed from this page.
- Does it double my character count?
- Yes. Every visible character gains an invisible combining mark, so anywhere with a hard limit will count roughly double.
- Should I underline links?
- No. On the web an underline signals a clickable link, and faking one on plain text is a small usability trap. Use it for emphasis in places that offer nothing else.
